THE MINISTRIES OF ST JOHN MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH

St John Missionary Baptist Church exists to make disciples of Jesus Christ through joyful worship, praise, spiritual nurture, and compassionate outreach in the Alton, IL/St. Louis area and throughout the world.

St John Baptist Church offers a wide range of ministries. Click on any of the ministries for more details, or just scroll down this page for an overview of all our ministries.

Adult Ministries

SINGLES

Designed to encourage single, divorced and widowed individuals to build a dynamic and mature faith in Christian life through prayer, study, praise, worship and Christian fellowship. Singles are motivated to build self-esteem and character to see yourself as "God sees you".

The Singles Ministry meets the 4th Friday of each month at 6:30p.m.

Sis Jacqueline Johnson

 

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

Structured Christian courses for all ages to teach the Word of God. Emphasis is placed on leading souls to Christ, teaching self-control, conducting ones self in a Godly manner, and learning how to treat one another. Classes are conducted in small discussion groups to enrich the Christian learning experience.

The Sunday School classes meet weekly Sunday at 9:30a.m.

Mother Lovie Woods

The Bible Study Classes meet weekly Wednesday at 7:00p.m.

Pastor Velda Peals

MUSIC

Provide inspirational and dynamic music for the worship service. Through song and praise, the choir ushers in the Holy Spirit and prepares the service for the minister to bring God's word.

The Mass Choir meets weekly on Saturday at 12:00p.m.

Mother Lovie Woods

The Men's Choir meets weekly on Saturday at 1:15p.m.

MISSION

The Mission Ministry assist individuals in meeting basic needs such as food, clothing, shelter, spiritual nurturing or whatever the needs might be. Available to serve others regardless of race, creed or color. Servants to serve others in need even when it is not convenient.

The Mission Ministry meets 2nd and 4th Saturday at 10:00 a.m.

DEACONS

To see that the church is supportive of Pastor in her efforts to carry out God's biddings and mandates. Also, to make sure that God's house is maintained and that those who enter are welcomed.

The Deacons Meetings are held on the 4th Thurday at 7:00p.m.

USHERS

To assist in the needs of the congregation by making everyone as comfortable and welcome in our Church home as possible with a Christian attitude.The

Usher Board Meetings are held 3rd Saturday at 10:30a.m.

MASS MEDIA & TECHNOLOGY (MAT)

Media and Technology (MAT) exists to glorify God by using media and technolgy to communicate the message of Christ. MAT will use lighting, audio, video, print, graphic design, and the internet to effectively speak the Gospel. The goal of the Media and Technology Ministry team is to provide services worthy of the worship of Jesus Christ. We will accomplish this goal by utilizing prayer, planning, preparation and practice while keeping our priorities of God, family and church in order. We will seek how to best serve every ministry with media and technology to help facilitate bringing people to know Jesus Christ, helping people to grow in Jesus Christ and sending people to show Jesus Christ.

The Mass Media and Technology (MAT) Ministry meets 4th Saturday at 11:00a.m.

PRAISE AND PRAYER

"And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. Our mission is to provide an altar of prayer where one can come to meet with God, establish or enhance a relationship with God, offer sacrifices to God, and/or pray for others as we take their concerns and petitions to God. We are called to minister the plan of salvation and to pray for restored fellowship with God. Through praise and prayer, we welcome in the Holy Spirit.

The Praise and Worship services meet every Tuesday at 6:30p.m.
